UPDATE (April 8, 2020) Statement by Bishop John M. LeVoir regarding extension of suspension of all public Masses NEW ULM (APRIL 8) – In consideration of today’s extended “Stay at Home” order issued by Governor Walz, I have extended the suspension of all public Masses in the diocese of New Ulm to Monday, May 4, as an effort to slow the rapid spread of the coronavirus. I understand how difficult it is for everyone not to gather together for Mass during this time. However, the fundamental operating principles of the Diocese of New Ulm are the prevention or the slowing down of the spread of the coronavirus and the spiritual well-being of our parishioners, while at the same time not endangering diocesan clergy. All Catholics in the diocese remain dispensed from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass. I encourage all the faithful to participate in Sunday Mass via televised, online, or radio broadcast. Holy Week liturgies I will be following the Decree of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments for the celebration of the Easter Triduum liturgies. I will celebrate each liturgy privately. Each liturgy will be recorded and made available on the diocesan website that same day. Mass of the Lord’s Supper (Thursday, April 9). Good Friday of the Lord’s Passion (Friday, April 10). Easter Sunday Mass (Sunday, April 12).
